The South Sentinel Island lighthouse of a 36-meter-high GI trestle tower was commissioned on 1997. It is a remote unmanned lighthouse. The island lies 186 km southwest of Port Blair. This inhabitant island belongs to the Port Blair tehsil in the South Andaman administrative district, part of the Indian union territory of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, neighboring North Sentinel Island. The South sentinel lighthouse serves mainly the marine fisherman fraternity to ensure safe navigation. The south sentinel lighthouse can be approached via Sea from Port Blair through a Departmental vessel or any chartered vessel upto anchorage Point and from the anchorage point by dinghy up to shore.
