BATTIMALV LIGHTHOUSE

BATTIMALV-LIGHTHOUSE

Battimalv Lighthouse is a 14 meter high G.I trestle tower established in the year 1986. Battimalv island is 30 km south of Car Nicobar. It is one of the remotest inhabitant island. Battimalv island is a cliff formation. It has only one landing point on northern side through a naturally formed cavity into the rock. The coastal surface has sharp ground formation. From far distance on sea the islet looks like a fort. The Lighthouse is unapproachable mostly due to presence of rocky/ coral cliff around the island. The Battimalv lighthouse can be approached via Sea from Port Blair through Departmental vessel or any chartered vessel upto anchorage Point and from anchorage point by dinghy upto shore, involving high risk of damage of dinghy due to presence of sharp rocky projections all-around the island. Due to remoteness of island and difficulties in approach due geographical & topographical constraints sometimes the Indian Navy is also requested to visit the islet by helicopter to carry out maintenance..
