KILTAN-LIGHTHOUSE-(SOUTH)

Located at the southern tip of Kiltan Island, an inhabited island in Lakshadweep archipelago. There were a number of wrecks that took place in the close vicinity of Kiltan Island. It was therefore felt necessary to establish a tall lighthouse on the southern tip of Island. A temporary light started functioning since 15 th May, 1974 from a wooden trestle tower of height 15 metre.Simultaneously construction of tower with CC Blocks was taken up and completed in 1976 and commisioned the lighthouse on 6 th April, 1977 after the installation of PV equipements.Under the modernization scheme, PV system was replaced by incandescent lamp and then by metal halide lamp on 31 th October 1999.
